cat sank trio
An acoustic music group from the Fargo/Moorhead area
About Catsank : Our Name
People ask us all the time about our “odd” name, and the explanation always takes longer than it’s worth, but maybe posting its purpose on the website will lessen the amount of times at performances we will have to bore somebody with the story.
When the group first formed we intended on being an acoustic trio, but we realized that we were going to add Fanks on percussion and wanted a unique name that would encompass the fact that we were actually a trio of four.
The name originates from a bilingual riddle/play on phonetics told to Terry by a friend from Winnipeg: Once there were two cats–one was named One Two Three and one was named Un Deux Trois. They challenged each other to a race across a raging river.
Which cat won?
Answer:
One Two Three, because Un Deux Trois quatre cinq
[explained, understandably, to those lacking any experience with French--the pronunciation of "quatre cinq" approximates "cat sank"].
So, in English, we are actually the “Four Five” Trio–that leaves us room for expansion.
More reasons for the name are Crystal’s love for cats, the odd visual one imagines at the thought of “Cat Sank,” and the fact that we couldn’t think of anything else!
