About : Crystal Jensen

Crystal Jensen was never born: she just is.

She was incubated in a Mandan earth lodge, and tempered in the eyes of the Anoka Tornadoes. She was raised by the wolves and the wind, with a tip of the hat to Jack Kerouac, Joni Mitchell, Charlie Parker, Sharon Olds, and–of course–the Grotbergs and Todd.

She met the boys in the Cat Sank Trio when they all were learning English, and now she teaches it and them. Crystal, when she has any leisure time, writes fine poetry and fiction, dotes on her cats (one of which, “Bean,” is the actual “Bean” referenced in the title of the trio’s CD “The Bean Project”), listens to a wide array of tunes, and vehemently practices her penny whistle.

There are many who believe that Crystal is the Miles Davis of the penny whistle; there are many, also, who don’t believe that. Regardless of whether she is or isn’t, Crystal is fun–and with a voice like melting butterscotch, Crystal is by far the sweetest member of the group. Viva the Diva!
