Smelt Endorsement
Hello–Things have been rather peaceful around Cat Sank land. The winter ended up so mercilessly long that we stopped rehearsing every week to watch our calendar go into hibernation. Now we’ve poked our heads out and saw all four shadows, so we assume that it’s safe for broad-band emergence. We’re starting out our rebirth by heading out across the Lake Agassiz ice-cap to play a combination BINGO/ smelt fry at the Legion in Middle River, MN. This is just the beginning: we’ve been offered a smelt endorsement, so there could be an entire tour, following the smelt runs and fries from one end of snowmobile country to another. We’ll be selling our new “SMELT: The Anchovy of Bemis Hill” and “SMELT: The Non-Violent Pet Food” t-shirts once we ease into the tour. The Cork & Cleaver is still our home once a month, but they don’t serve smelt–that could become a conflict of interest. We have two CDs in the works–one covers, one originals–but neither are close to finished. The original tunes are starting to add up, but we’ve been too busy to even get rough arrangements of them yet, much less record them. Crystal just made a mysterious trip to Nashville–perhaps looking for a solo deal, but more likely to do a few cameo penny whistle and melodica sessions on Toby Keith’s new album. In any case, she’s tight-lipped. We can’t wait to see the look on her face when she finds out that, during her trip, the band has been rolling in smelt. Until the next time–keep your daubers poised for Blackout, and the smelt sliding down head-first. Catch us when you can!
